Meet The Staff
Daniel Keller
President
Lifeletics founder and President, Daniel Keller, brings a well-rounded background to the company. As a player, Keller was selected Freshman All-American at UCLA (1996), won two high school CIF Championships and participated in NCAA Championship level playoffs. Through his career as a private instructor, camp director, and high school coach, Dan has gained invaluable experience not only in peak athletic performance, but also in dealing with victory and defeat.
As a three-year Varsity starter at Fountain Valley High School, Keller helped guide the Baron baseball team to CIF Championships in 1994 and 1995, earning All-County, All-CIF and All-State honors. He also started three years on the Varsity basketball team, earning two Sunset League Championships and reaching the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section in 1994 and 1995. Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1995, Keller chose to attend UCLA on a full athletic scholarship instead. In college, Dan played under legendary coach Gary Adams reaching the NCAA Regional Playoffs in 1996, 1997 and 1999, and advancing to the College World Series in 1997. Keller earned All-American honors in 1996, and was a two-time all-star in the prestigious Cape Cod Summer League before injuring his shoulder while weightlifting in 1998. After surgery and a year of rehab, Dan worked his way back into pitching shape and the starting rotation in 1999 before a related shoulder injury ended his career later that year. Lifeletics was started in 2001 with individual training, summer and winter Academies, coaching clinics, and a line of instructional books and videos. Keller's coaching experience includes stints at the Valley School of Baseball in San Diego , OCBA Travel Ball club, freshman, JV and Varsity high school experience ( Fountain Valley ), and thousands of individual lessons and camp weeks.
Brent Erickson
Instructor, Pitching
A Lifeletics staple since 2007, Coach Erickson was a vital member of the creation process inside the Lifeletics Training Facility. Currently, Brent works full time for Toyota Motor Corporation and offers pitching instruction for individuals and teams at Lifeletics.
Coach Erickson was a three-year letterman at Fountain Valley High School earning All-Sunset League honors as well as the Brice Dickerson Award (Most Inspirational) his senior year. After one year at Orange Coast College , Brent earned a scholarship to attend Hawaii Pacific University and then finished his career and earned a degree in business from Vanguard University.
In Brent's words: "I love the game of baseball and was fortunate enough to learn from great teachers throughout my career. I pour my heart and soul into doing the same for my athletes and enjoy challenging and guiding them. At Lifeletics, we train champions - from the way you carry yourself to the way you pitch - we train and develop champions!"
Wes McCollum

Coach Wes joined the Lifeletics team in 2010, bringing a refreshing attitude, professionalism and energy to the Lifeletics staff. Coach Wes offers individual lessons, team workouts and directs Group Clinics inside the Lifeletics Training Facility and participates in all camp, clinic and showcase events outside on the fields. Coach Wes has spent 6 years working as a professional instructor including over 60 weeks of camp experience.
As a player, Wes graduated from a star-studded career at Brea Olinda High School and played college baseball at College of the Desert before earning a scholarship to Missouri Valley College. Coach Wes graduated top of his class with a degree in criminal justice and earch scholar athlete awards both years at MVC. Currently, Wes is studying for the LSAT and pursuing a career in law.
In Wes' words: "I'm consistently impressed with the willingness of these kids to push beyond their comfort zone. I work hard to adapt my communication to the athlete's needs. Whether it's tough love or a quiet push, I take pride in truly teaching. Baseball is a great game and one that can teach so much about competition, handling failure, and performing under pressure. With me, your athlete will work hard, learn and develop... and we'll do all of that together while having fun and growing as a young person."

Charlie Phillips
Senior Instructor //
Coach Phillips joined the Lifeletics team in 2011, bringing over 25 years of coaching experience to the team. Charlie was on the first Orange County team to go to the Little League World Series and pitched 2 shutouts and struck out 29 batters in 12 innings. He then followed that with an appearance in the Senior World Series 2 years later. Charlie went on to La Quinta High School where he was player of the year in the Garden Grove league and All Orange County 1st team 2 years and All CIF 1st team 2 years in a row. In 1973 Charlie was a member of the Connie Mack World Series champion Long Beach Cardinals and won 2 games in the World Series including the final game.
Charlie was drafted in the 13th round by the Atlanta Braves out of high school but received a full scholarship from USC where he helped them win a national championship. Drafted in the 9th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Charlie played two years in the organization and spent another three years in the Angel organization reaching as high as AAA. He was a member of two championship teams in the minor leagues and led the Texas league in winning percentage.
Charlie moved on to be a head coach at the high school, junior college and 4-year level at various schools in Orange County. Charlie has had over 55 players under his tutelage sign pro contracts. While at Vanguard University he coached the 1st female pitcher to win a college game. In his six years as the coach at Vanguard he led them to the playoffs four times.
Charlie has worked under and been influenced and learned from some of the best minds in baseball. USC coach Rod Dedeaux, the "Coach of the Century" in college baseball, Warren Spahn, Rod Carew, Larry Sherry, Carl Erskine, Ron Perranoski, Tommy Davis are among the many that Charlie was coached by, learned from or was influenced by. Charlie has been teaching in the Santa Ana school district for 26 years and has been doing private instruction for 24 years.

Brandon Cox
Senior Instructor // Flyer
Brandon Cox was an All-League catcher at Fountain Valley High School , earning scholarships first to Concordia and then Vanguard University in Orange County . A true teacher by trade, Coach Cox instructs hitting, fielding, catching and throwing for Lifeletics. He also served four yeas as coach/trainer for the OCBA travel ball club and currently assists with the Brethren Christian High School team.
A graduate of Concordia University, Brandon majored in communication and later earned his teaching credential from National University. A major brain surgery in high school deeply affected Brandon's baseball career, providing the opportunity to overcome adversity with a collegiate scholarship and learn valuable lessons now vital to his coaching influence. Coach Brandon cites Bob Gibbs, John Hockenberry, Joey Aversa and Ryan Dambach as his most influential coaches and mentors.
In Brandon's words: "After being told I might not live and definitely wouldn't play baseball again, I perservered to not only work through my injury and back to health, but also to get back on the field and earn a scholarship to play college baseball. This is the same type of attitude and appreciation for the game that I work hard to instil into all of my athletes, on top of fundamental execution and performance. What about you? Ryan Doherty
Senior Instructor // Flyer
Lifeletics instructor Ryan Doherty is a big deal - a 7-foot big deal! After turning down basketball scholarships to every top college in the nation, Coach Doherty signed to play baseball with Notre Dame University and went on to play professionally for 3-years with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Ryan offers pitching training, directs group pitching clinics, works Lifeletics' Elite events and coordinates pitchers for the Lifeletics Travelball Club.
As a player, Doherty was the 2002 Gatorade State Player of the Year in New Jersey for HS. He earned All-American honors in 2004 while pitching for Notre Dame and is still the university's all-time saves leader. Professionally, Coach Ryan was a top-50 prospect in the Diamondbacks organization pitching alonside (and looking down on) Randy Johnson. Throughout his career, Ryan was featured nationally in Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine and Baseball America. Currently, Ryan is training as a professional beach volleyball player.
In Ryan's words: "Baseball is a great game and was very good to me. I teach to give back to the stars of tomorrow and work hard to have fun at every lesson. Because of my experience playing professional baseball, I understand the road to and through the many levels of baseball is long and windy. Let's get to work and enjoy every step of the way!"

Matt Sharp
Director, Lifeletics Newport Beach //
Matt Sharp has been a professional baseball instructor since 2007. He has worked with athletes of all ages and skill level focusing on development and proper fundamentals. Matt has provided professional coaching to numerous travel ball teams with emphasis on learning an advanced approach to the game. Matt has also helped numerous players reach success at the High School, Collegiate and Professional levels through individual and group training sessions. He looks forward to continuing player development while enjoying a career built around his passion for baseball. Matt is currently the Head Freshman Coach at Mater Dei High School.
Matt played High School baseball for New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, leading his team to the Illinois State Championship in 2000. He was a 1st team All-State selection in 2000 and All-League in all three years playing varsity. Matt went on to play four years at UCLA as a catcher/3rd baseman/1st baseman. Matt graduated from UCLA in 2005 with a degree in sociology with emphasis in business. In the spring of 2005, Sharp was drafted by the Chicago White Sox. Matt played three seasons with the White Sox from 2005-2007 with an invitation to Big League Spring Training in 2007. In 2008, Matt signed a professional contract to play in the Italian Baseball League where he finished 4th best player in the league.

Chris Malec
Director, Lifeletics South Orange County // Flyer
Chris comes to Lifeletics with 5-years playing experience in the New York Yankees organization. A star player at Santa Margarita High School, Coach Chris earned a scholarship to UC Santa Barbera where he played 4 years and eventually graduated and was drafted into professional baseball. After 5-years spent with the Yankees, Coach Malec returns to South Orange County to share his two most valuable character traits: Passion and Persistence.
Coach Chris is Directing all operations at Lifeletics South Orange County. In partnership with the MVP Sportscenter Training Facility, Lifeletics offers individual and group instruction, batting cage rentals and camp/clinic events. Coach Malec directs Lifeletics' Spring Training Athlete/Coach Clinics, Spring Break Position Clinics and participates in Lifeletics Elite and Team Training. His gifts as a teacher are evident immediately, and his understanding of learning modalities and personality types allow Chris to clearly communicate to all athletes.

Bill Birinyi
Manager, Lifeletics Baseball Camp
Bill Birinyi is the rare blend of teacher and coach. A classroom veteran of 10 years, Bill currently teaches science at Fountain Valley High School, where he is also coaches Baseball (2011-2012 Head JV Coach). His talents at communicating with todays youth both in the classroom and on the field make him a perfect fit for the Lifeletics staff. Focusing on developing champions and winners, Birinyi attended Westmont college, where he was involved with the Warriors for 4 years. Bill currently is in charge of Lifeletics Summer and Winter Camp operations.
